Whether you like your steak all natural and served alone or spiced up and served with all the fixings, knowing how to cook a steak is paramount to keeping the flavors intact and not overcooking your steak and achieving the ideal internal temperature.

There are several factors to consider when cooking your steak dinner. How you cook the steak, what you’re preparing it with, the specific cut of steak, and the temperature you want it cooked at. Follow this comprehensive steak temperature chart, and you’ll be cooking up perfect steaks all year round.

How to Cook the Perfect Pre Grass-Fed and Finished Steak

  1. Firstly, take the steak out of the fridge for at least thirty minutes before cooking it. This allows your steak to reach room temperature. If you cook a cold steak, the muscle fibers will tense up, causing your steak to be tough. Pat the steak dry, and you are ready for the next step.
  2. Rub your steak with high-heat oil or ghee and salt it liberally.
  3. Now it’s time to cook your steak! Place it on a grill or skillet on medium to high heat.
  4. Follow the steak temperature chart below to get your desired internal temperature!
  5. Allow your steak to rest for five to seven minutes after it is done, and enjoy!

How to Test Your Meats Internal Temperature

After cooking your steak for the proper time listed above, take the internal temperature with a meat thermometer. To accurately get your steak's internal temperature, place the meat thermometer into the thickest part of the steak. The sides and edges of the meat will cook up to a higher temperature than the center part, as the sides are typically thinner.
