Pre is based in Chicago, so we had to make a delicious deep dish pizza with Italian sausage made from Pre. Try not to eat the whole pie!

PREP: 15 min. ACTIVE: 25 min. PASSIVE: 45 min. DIFFICULTY Hard

Ingredients:

  • 1 Pre 85% Lean Ground Beef
  • 1 tsp. parsley
  • 1 tsp. Italian seasoning
  • 2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 2 tsp. onion powder
  • ½ tsp. fennel
  • 1 tsp. black pepper
  • ¼ tsp. paprika
  • ½ tsp. red pepper flakes
  • 1 tsp. sea salt
Crust:
  • 1 ½ c. Almond Flour
  • 1 c. mozzarella cheese
  • 3 eggs, whisked together
  • 3 tbsp. coconut oil, melted
  • 1 tbsp. oregano
  • 1 tbsp. basil
Filling:
  • 1 ½ c. marinara sauce (we used Roa’s)
  • 1 large Italian Sausage
  • 1 c. mozzarella cheese
  • 1 c. baby spinach
  • 1 c. Portobello mushroom
  • ½ tsp. oregano
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. basil
  • ½ c. shredded asiago
    1. Grease a 12” cake pan or springform pan.
    2. In a large bowl, combine all the ingredients for the sausage by mixing with your hands. Roll into a large disk.
    3. Heat a 9” skillet on medium-high heat. Press the disk into the pan so it forms a large flat patty.
    4. Flip when browned on one side. Brown the other side and remove to a plate or cutting board.
    5. Preheat oven to 350.
    6. In the same skillet make the vegetable filling. Sauté the mushrooms with a bit more oil if needed, add the filling seasoning: oregano, salt, basil. Lastly, throw in the spinach and sauté until just wilted. Remove and set aside.
    7. Melt cheese for the crust on the stovetop in a saucepan or in a microwave.
    8. Mix together the rest of crust ingredients in a large bowl and set aside.
    9. Place dough in the bottom of the greased pan. Make sure it’s even on all sides and the crust goes up the sides of the pan. Using wet fingers will make this process much easier.
    10. Cook dough in the oven for 15-20 minutes, until starting to brown.
    11. Sprinkle a light layer of cheese at the bottom, then put your sausage patty, then a light layer of marinara sauce, then the veggie filling, then the remainder of the mozzarella cheese, the remainder of the sauce, and sprinkle the top with asiago cheese.
    12. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until cheese is melted and the crust is golden. Serve hot with red pepper flakes.
