Caramelized Onion Sliders

This slider recipe is an ode to one of our favorite midwestern cities, Detroit. The caramelized onions are a star ingredient here... do not skip them!

PREP: 25 min. ACTIVE: 10 min. PASSIVE: 5 min. DIFFICULTY Medium

Ingredients:

  • 1 Pre 85% Ground Beef, pull from fridge 10 minutes before cooking
  • 1-2 tsp salt.
  • 1 yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp high heat oil or butter
  • 2-3 slices aged cheddar cut into smaller squares
  • Bread and butter pickles sliced
  • Mayo
  • 6 slider buns or dinner rolls
  1. Heat a cast iron skillet or griddle pan to medium-high.
  2. Heat oil and sauté onions until soft. Push to one side of griddle.
  3. Form ground beef into 6 equal sized balls and flatten into patties. They might look larger than normal sliders but they shrink when cooked.
  4. Salt both sides of the patties. Place onto hot grill or skillet near onions.
  5. Let cook until color is on both sides. About 2-3 minutes per side. On the second side place the cheese so it can melt.
  6. Move the onions around the other side of the griddle to prevent from burning. Cook until crispy and caramelized. If possible, tilt the pan so some of the beef juice coats the onions. Remove patties and onions when cooked.
  7. In the same pan, toast the buns split side down for about 1 minute. Remove and assemble sliders.
  8. Coat the buns with mayo and pickles, one cheesy slider, and caramelized onions. Enjoy!
